Hello and thank you for visiting. I am Stewart Sloan, the owner of this blog and the website, Stewart Goes Walkies at https://stewartgoeswalkies.com/
I created Stewart Goes Walkies just over a year ago in the PDF reports on the hiking routes I was following in the territory of Hong Kong, where I live. My first PDF attempts were rough and had to be re-edited several times after being issued.
Then, in February of 2021, my son suggested that I start a Website. He put me on to WordPress and helped me with the initial setup. And the rest, as they say, is history.
I have always enjoyed outdoor activities and, in my younger days, was a keen rock climber. I also trekked to the Langtang Basecamp in Nepal and climbed Mt. Kinabalu in East Malaysia. Both trips were exciting and arduous but well worth the effort.
I have just turned 69 years of age. Now I limit myself to hiking routes in the territory. If it involves hiking in the hills, I make sure that I am accompanied by someone. However, there are many scenic exercise routes, which I am happy to do by myself. These routes usually travel along cycle tracks which are well used and safe.
Why am I writing this?
I want to encourage people to get out into the countryside regardless of age and ability.
Take your time and use trekking poles or a walking stick. Stop and look at the scenery. Enjoy nature!
I walk an average of 5 kilometres a day (3 miles). I hope that I have encouraged you to start walking. I can promise you that you will soon see the benefits.
I wish you all the best for 2022!
